We checked into the Mercure Paris Nord Saint-Witz hotel after midnight. Check in went smoothly and we were tucked up in bed in no time. A good night’s sleep and we greeted the morning with a mixture of laughter and disbelief concerning the events of the evening before. A look out the window to survey the surrounding countryside….

Yes, as with many major cities around the world, the surrounding fields are being swallowed up by light industrial buildings, slotted between motorway routes and what was formerly rural landscape is slowly becoming a thread of mankind’s ” progress” that will one day join the great hubs of humanity in a single line of unbroken urban sprawl…

We went down to a reasonably early breakfast with a view of getting back onto the road and beating the worst of the Paris traffic. The weather is balmy and we settle on the terrace under a parasol for breakfast.

I opt for fruit and bread/pancake whilst Himself digs in happily to a cooked breakfast ( I somehow managed to overlook that section of the breakfast offerings) Never mind, mine was healthier and tasty too.

A nice selection of breads to choose from ( sadly not so many brown or grain varieties…) but it was fresh, we were hungry and France and white bread are a centuries old tradition together so ” when in France” … baguette it is…

Not too much to report on this Hotel, clean room, nice breakfast, Friendly staff, helpful in trying to look up a Pineau de Charantes company name on the internet so that I could enter the postcode and address into the TomTom ( and tried hard patiently with variations because I had forgotten how to spell the name correctly and mislaid the paper I had written it down on). We didn’t succeed in finding it in the end, but top marks for a valient effort and a friendly smile whilst the Concierge tried.

Now the road is calling us and we have a lot of kilometers to get behind us so we bid adieu and head back to the motorway.

Then it was onto the road, heading South via Paris…
