Singapore, a country and places of great extremes, open serene spaces, tightly packed people, a place were the old and new and East and West of Asia collide.
We are staying on Sentosa Island and the drive there though the city passes by some great places, so we will have a little look around first so you can get an idea of the city…
Like most big cities space is expensive, so Singaporeans have found ingenious ways to utilize it well.
The old Singapore monorail that I went on around Sentosa Island in the 1980′s has been replaced by the Singapore Express the runs between the city and the island.
Now I’m no train buff but I must admit that I find these carriages amazing bits of design and I think they are gorgeous…
…here’s a small photo series of one of them going past whilst we wait at the traffic lights nearby…
We spy a train station in the city though that really doesn’t match the rest of Singapore’s style… and there’s a reason why, the Station is in the heart of Singapore but technically isn’t Singaporean territory… it was part of the deal that it would belong to Malaysia after the second world war.. sadly Malaysia appears to be less fussy with the maintenance.
Tall buildings grow like tropical vines, offices and apartments reach into the sky…
Interesting buildings…
After crossing the bridge onto Sentosa we catch a glimpse of the soon to open Casino…
..and the theme park under construction…
Ahhhh, time to relax, we are back in Singapore…
