I’m still getting to grips with my DSLR camera and on the few occasions when I actually get around to experimenting, I am reminded of how far I down the learning curve I still am.
I’m not much further with getting the focus right and composition isn’t yet a strong point, although I am trying a few new angles now and again.
Last summer when apricots happened for a change to taste as good as they looked and were also a reasonable price (apricot facts that in my experience can not just be taken for granted here in Europe as they can in New Zealand) I sent Himself on a shopping mission and he came back with about five kilo’s of apricots, most of which ended up as pie filling which was duly stashed in my freezer.
These apricots were very photogenic, and intrigued as I am about light and Dutch Old Masters, I thought at the time that I’d attempt an Old Master style composition of my own.
Work in progress… next time I will use the tripod and change the background by rigging up something more interesting, but it was at last an attempt. Still Life with Apricots…

I think you are off to a great start!

Beautiful photos. I like the way you used the blue design on the bowl to offset the orange apricots. Helen

They look delectable. A DSLR is going to be our next step up as well – when money allows. You seem to be coming to grips with it very well.

Learning to take a great photo is a real challenge, but it looks to me like you are doing OK. Are you liking your new camera?

Hi Kiwi,
Great pictures. I still can’t get the focus right when I take pictures…..her hmmm I cheat. I take the picture and then crop. However, just occassionally I’ve taken a wonderful picute where the subject is in focus and the background not. But I don’t know how I acheived it! Keep practising
