More Than Inspiration Hiding in the Acanthus Leaves…

I was going to write up a whole note on these photographs, but basically if I am honest I’m stashing these photos here because I can find them easier for reference later here on my blog, than I can on a hard disk drive that now has some 20 000 photos on it.

Ok maybe not quite that many but it feels like it some days.

When I am looking for a particular photo that I know  I took but can’t remember which folder I left it in, it feels like 10 times more.

Remember I’m always rabbiting on about getting back to drawing?

Well, these are part of my inspiration boards… and the unexpected faces in the acanthus leaves under the horse and rider statue back at the  Koninklijke Academie van Beeldende Kunsten (Royal Academy of Art) in the Hague were just an “interesting” added extra.

A bit too scary to use though, I’m after inspiration not nightmares. I’m no Goya or Munch.

I was getting excited about leaves and foliage of late but now I’m in bed coughing instead of getting the pens out. “When I’m better” I tell myself… but you know how life works in real life : when I’m better I’m too busy rushing around catching up on all the things I didn’t get done when I was sick.

In the meantime here are some floral inspirations from my final post from the Royal Academy of Art.

  2. Great photos – of great sculptures. I really like the faces hiding in the acanthus leaves. 🙂

  3. Beautiful inspiration in those carvings — although I find the two guys popping out of the holes a little freakier than the hidden acanthus faces! 🙂

    Feel better soon!
