A Wet Surprise Goes Down A Treat…

Following yesterday’s post, we have arrived in the historic Belgian town of Bruges and the first order of the day is to check into the Karos Floris Hotel Brugge, check out the rooms and dump the bags before going out for dinner.

I have surprised the children with a treat: I’ve managed to find a hotel with a swimming pool.

There is also a miniature sized gym, and in a deserted moment I got some very funny family photographs of Kiwi Daughter donning boxing gloves and very gleefully taking on a punching bag and Little Mr. “using” a weights machine and looking rather pleased (but in reality he wasn’t actually moving anything at all)

We have two rooms, a double for Velvetine and a large family room for Family Kiwidutch.

it’s very centrally located, just across from the large square known as ” ‘t Zand”. The style of the hotel is an intriguing mixture of old and new, with quite a few quirky bits thrown in for good measure. Take for instance the bell at reception… this isn’t a little tiny standard sized bell, this is a bell on steroids:  I’ve included an extra photo of Velvetine’s hand when she was about to ring it so that you can get an idea of just how big it was. The architectural styles are all over the place but it’s clear that this is an old building that’s been totally gutted and renovated, and within the constraints of it’s position in the city centre they have tried to bring as much natural light into the building as possible.

Since space is at a premium the pool is of course tiny, but during our stay it was much appreciated by Himself and our children, who endeavoured to spend as much time there as possible. The evening we arrived was overcast and drizzling but we were greeted the next morning with fabulous weather and blue skies so I included the next day’s photographs too.
