A New Shopping List Brings Us Back Into Vaals…

Our family were in Maastricht several years ago and stayed in a holiday park outside Vaals.

In our hurry here the day before we missed several things on the shopping list… got the usual stuff like bread, milk, pasta, fruit  and veggies but other essentials like anti- itch mosquito bite cream.

In our holiday house there were no screens on the windows and Kiwi Daughter won the mosquito lottery and was by far the most popular person on the menu.

Maybe it’s pheromones or something but both she and I seem to be  the family mosquito magnets and Little Mr and Himself appear to be almost completely left alone most of the time.

Not only that, but when they get bitten don’t swell up at all and barely itch, whereas she and I blow up with large red welts and itch for a week. Himself also discovered that he’d forgotten to bring a book to read so after the pharmacy, a visit to the only bookshop in town was on the agenda and once there the kids begged, pleaded and got several large Donald Duck Pocket sized books each as well. My treat was more photographs of the town as they browsed…and  being a lover of detail, I wasn’t disappointed. Himself and the kids caught up with me in the street after they had made their book choices and next on their hit list was to try and wrangle a”visit” to the chocolate shop. “Just a visit, they said, we just need to take a look“. Now even if I had been born yesterday, I think I’d know that no-one goes into a chocolate shop with the intention to “just look”. Needless to say,  their dastardly plot failed and they didn’t get their wish, no chocolate on our shopping list any time soon. There will be other holiday treats enough.
