Yet Another Tough Border Crossing (NOT)!

Whilst avoiding a run of bad weather during our fortnight’s holiday in Germany last summer, Family Kiwidutch headed a short distance south to Luxemburg.

Our Lady of the Tom Tom for some reason, had us take the smallest of roads home (probably the “most direct route”) and once again we find ourselves at a tiny back road intersection with a sign denoting that we have crossed an international country border.

Interestingly though, since we were entering Germany, we could only see a sign for the Luxemburg that we have just left, but none for the Germany we have just entered, (at least that we could find).

As per my precious post on how easy all international borders should be, we all marvel and appreciate the European Union and the open border and free movement arrangements that benefit so many of the citizens of the participating countries. Let’s take a look at this “blink and you missed it” corn field and dirt track road that denote the country boundary here. The “Anlieger frei” sign actually means ” except for access traffic ” so, not for through traffic, only for people who need to be there. Hmm that’s not quite us then, but since we are here by accident rather than by design it seems logical to just go onewards rather than to go back. Of course maybe the “Anlieger frei” sign is only for the dirt tracks that are the border itself, it’s not really clear. Regardless we are on our way… and through several heavy rain showers along the way, we arrive back in the small town of  Stadtkyll, close to where our Landal holiday park is situated.

    • Maureen,
Our Lady Of The Tom Tom has gotten us out of as many pickles as she has gotten us into to (much like our own navigational skills… sketchy at best LOL)! Since we are usually worse off without her she gets to stay despite the sillier moments she produces.
