Hump Ahead…

I love how different countries have amazingly different names for the same thing.  Ok, Dutch is not English so there is no direct translation, but what might be called a “speed bump” in English is here called a “drempel”. I have heard that apparently these things laid into the road to reduce traffic speed are called in England: Sleeping Policemen. In New Zealand if you have a very raised and narrow one of these, they called them “judder bars” (although usually judder bars are placed on public driveways and off the main roads: think car park entrances into hospitals, schools etc.) I was amused to see the letters on the road leading towards the Swiss Club: “Hump Ahead”! Ah ha, another name to add to my collection of quirky names for these. “Traffic speed reducer” is obviously far too long a name to write on the road and be legible, but if you had to make up a name for these, or know an excellent one, then I would be delighted to know what it is.
