The Duck Details…

I am still experimenting with my telephoto lens, trying to zoom in on my unsuspecting subjects; the bird who have come to take advantage of the food for wild birds that I bought at a local pet shop. It was the Easter break of 2017 the kids were still in bed, my camera and I were literally ‘up with the birds’. Ducks are fascinating creatures, shaped like flying rugby balls they are not long and sleek, so certainly not the supermodels of the bird world, and yet there is certain beauty, grace, colour, personality and character in their make up. the fact that their feathers are so water resistant and everything fits together so well is one of natures many masterworks. Loving detail I wanted to zoom in as much a I could, and in so doing tried to capture the finer point of my feathered friends.

  1. I am in envy of your lens…. Hope to get something like that myself. The detail you have found is superb…

    • Maureen,
I was lucky, there is a “newer” model on the market that was over 2.000,- Euro so the camera shop had the “old” Sigma model on special from 1,700 something down to 1. 250– Euro. Still expensive I know, but the official Canon one is wayyy more expensive. I thought about it for at least four years before I bit the bullet.
When the sale came around it looked like it was the right moment but with work, pain and concentration, but to my shame I haven’t used it as much as I would like between then and now.
Little Mr wants to do a photography course via school so maybe he will be the one to sit and teach me how to get more out of my camera equipment, including this.
It was worth the wait and I don’t regret the purchase, I mean…it’s not like I can spend money buying nice shoes any more !
