Hunebedden… Ancient Burial Monuments.

There are plenty of new things to learn and whilst visiting the Garderen Sand Sculpture exhibition in 2017. One of these is the word ‘hunebedden’. I’ve heard about tree-hugging before, but ‘rock-hugging’? Actually it translates into English as: “Dolmens, A Dolmen is an ancient burial monument of at least 5000 years old, constructed by the people of the Funnelbeaker culture. Many can be found at the Hondsrug in Drenthe. The ‘Drentse Landschap’ has established a number of bicycle routes along the most beautiful dolmens in their charge.” Wow, and there are tourists who follow these routes especially to visit them all. This is certainly news to me.
