A Sculptor Sketches? “In The Moment” Insights…

“Parels” (Pearls) weekend events throw up some unexpected treasures. In the same home where I am viewing sculpture and abstract forms in stone, I also found these two beautiful portraits. It appears that the artist who sculpts (may) also be the artist who has sketched these lovely studies of whom (I’ll assume) are probably family members. The first is of a girl reading what could be a newspaper, brochure or map, the second is of a child clutching a favourite doll. They might be sisters, or possibly the second one is of the first girl at a far younger age. I don’t know, but I do admire the obvious connection between the artist and subject that is generated by these studies… I’m impressed, these are simple, relaxed, “in the moment” sketches, and sum up a lot about their subjects. The lines may be easy and informal but they say so much.  I think these portraits are beautiful.
