Just Like A Dutch Master…

In November 2019 I had the opportunity to attend a private exhibition of artist Wilfried van den Boorn.

Entitled “Overview of Still-lifes From 2008-2019“,  this exhibition shows off his still-life paintings (mostly) of flowers, but often in the style of the old masters.

This painting, listed in the price list as “No.16, The purple ribbon” and for sale for Euro 3,250.-  shows the drapery-over-the-table technique often employed in old Dutch paintings.

It’s a massive pity that a strategically placed ceiling light made this difficult to photograph in full, but take it from me, the painting of the cloth was expertly done, and the porcelain bowl was almost real.

I found it a bit of a pity that the doll head made it look a little strange and that the purple ribbon for which it was named wasn’t more prominent, but regardless, this ranked with my top favourites in this show.
