I Think This Might Be Turning Into A Shoe Fetish…

This is my last post about the “Klompen” (clogs) in Garderen for 2015 at least. Yes, it might be starting to look like I have a shoe fetish but the simple truth is that there was so many more clogs on display this year and most were painted on both sides, so many a photograph was needed… Enjoy!

And finally, just in case you are thoroughly sick of shoes by now, here is a painted apple!

Shoes, Glorious Shoes! (Well, Klompen At Least)…

Garderen, a small village in the Dutch province of Gelderland, hosts a large sand scupture exhibition by international sand sculptors each year in the Spring and Summer months. One of the two themes in 2015 was “Children’s books” and it ws not only the sand sculptures that followed this theme but also the artists who decorated the large fiberglass “klompen” (clogs) at the entrance of the exhibition. Let’s take a look…

Shoes, These Are Very Big Ones To Fill…

The Landal Colderhoven holiday park in the Veluwe is located about forty minutes drive from Garderen, a small Dutch village that hosts a large sand sculpture exhibition each year.

Sand sculptors come from all over the world and the resulting display is on par with any other sand sculpture exhibition internationally.

Since we were staying fairly close by I was really keen to go, this would be my one special activity and treat for the weekend, especially since when at home I don’t get out much.

Opening hours were from 12:00 p.m. until 17:30 and if it would be any bit as good as last years event, it should be amazing. None of the kids were interested in joining me so they and Himself dropped me off and then headed back to Colderhoven with plans to hit the swimming pool. I make my way inside the exhibition and find that the entrance, as it was last year is decorated with large fiberglass “klompen” (clogs) that have been decorated around the main theme of this years exhibition “welk boek is dit ?” (Which Book is this?”), the books in question all being famous Dutch storybooks for children. The 2014 theme was of child Dutch rens nursery rhymes, which I featured here: “The Biggest Shoe Collection: Or … Just The Biggest Shoes?” Part of the sand sculptures in the exhibition follow the same theme of childrens book titles, so it was no unusual that there were many people studying the klompen trying to remember book titles from their childhood days.
