Once Family Kiwidutch have left the amazing monkey zoo called Apenheul, we are are on a bit of a high, buzzing about all the things we have seen and experiences we have had, but also hungry and frozen because the day has been far colder than we expected.
The moral of the story is that listening to the weather report might have been a great idea before we set out, but on the other hand we got to have the park almost to ourselves because so many people did look at the weather report and stayed away because of the cold weather.
Now everyone is starving hungry and cold so we don’t want to wait the hour and a half to two hours before we get home before we eat dinner. We stopped in Amersfoort for a bite to eat at the Bella Venezia restaurant.
It’s a pizzeria and so we know there will be something for everyone. Kiwi Daughter opted for pizza, Little Mr for plain pasta, me for a Bolognaise and Himself, a meaty dish with a tomato based sauce that I didn’t catch the name of and we shared a salad. It was the sort of meal that families have sometimes, all too tired for much conversation, everyone was hungry and so we sat with glazed over looks in our eyes piling in the calories so that we could warm our insides as well as our frozen hands and feet.
I can’t say too much about the taste of the food… we all just inhaled it and it seemed to go down fine, so no bad points anywhere. The service was fine too, we enjoyed the meal for what it was and hit the road with two tired but filled up kids who fell asleep wrapped in blankets in the back seat. The journey home was mostly done in silence and darkness, the motorway lights zipping past in the gloom until we got back into the night sky glow of the big cities. An excellent day…
