The Day We Tried Pancake Soup!

Each night after a day out in Legoland Germany, we head back at our accommodation at the Autenrieder Brauereigasthof hotel in Ichenhausen, and enjoy the evening meals.

Kiwi Daughter has even tried a schnitzel and liked it enough to order it once or twice, Little Mr decides that having Spätzle every day is almost as good as having pasta every day, and an item on the English menu is especially intriguing because it’s listed as “pancake soup”.

We  ask our friendly waitress if this is maybe a translation error ?, but no, she confirms that it’s really a “pancake soup”.

Himself and I are now really curious, so we order it … it’s interesting, actually rather good, the pancake in the soup has been cut into thin strips and sits in a clear vegetable bouillon, we determine after tasting that we would order it again if we fancied soup but it would never take the place of our favourite soups.

We tried the local specialities too, like the warm cherries that were served with ice-cream for dessert (I loved it, the rest of the family left me to it), the kids enjoyed ice-cream sundaes and to say that we ate well was an understatement because the portions were larger than we could manage some nights.  Here is a photo montage of our evening meals…

The Pool Is The Back-Up Plan, But Looks Like It’s Not Needed…

In this archive post Family Kiwidutch have arrived at their destination for the moment: the Autenrieder Brauereigasthof hotel in the small southern German village of Ichenhausen.

Our accommodation is in a family room situated in a separate building some two hundred and fifty metres away from the main part of the hotel.

The room has it’s own en suite bathroom, bunk beds for the children and a double for Himself and I.

There are no cooking facilities  but there is a small table and chair area and the place is plenty big enough for what we need. We aim to be eating mostly in the hotel restaurant anyway so a cooking area isn’t a priority this trip and we will be spending a good amount of the day times of this holiday somewhere special close by. One of the reasons I choose this hotel is because it has an indoor swimming pool, an ideal backup for days where the weather may or may not be favourable and  should our daytime activities be less of a success. I needn’t have worried: not only was the pool a total success, so were our days out too.
