Anyone Want a Glass of Milk?

New Zealand has a massive Dairy industry, both for local consumption and for export.

Since the South Island is better suited to sheep and beef stock (apart from the Southland area which also has Dairy) I’m not used to seeing milk tankers very often.

Knowing an industry is big in an area and seeing evidence of it so dramatically are two different things, so it was rather a shock for us to be travelling along  Taranaki roads late in the afternoon and having a constant stream of milk tankers coming towards us.

Not only are there a lot of them but they are all from the same company: Fonterra.

We counted 48 of them in the end… that’s a lot of milk!

Some of them are single tankers but most of them are double tankers so I do my best to capture the feeling of them all going past us. They are also knocking along at an impressive speed… all in a hurry to get back to the milk processing plant as quickly as possible it seems.  Our van is rocked by the rush of wind generated as they go past us on the little road…
